Rhetorical Contortions
The Debates have been Rhetorical Contortions.
by Hank Roth
George Bush said during the second debate that he was not a happy camper
when the inspectors failed to find weapons of mass destruction, at about
which time the spin machine went into gear and it was all those other
reasons for attacking Iraq which become the primary objective and WMD a
distant reason behind the other reason that Saddam Hussein was a bad
man. It is ironic that it never occurred to them at any other time that
Saddam was a bad man, especially when he was the recipient of U.S. aid.
But to be fair about it, so was Iran and at the same time.
All George Bush needed to do was to listen to the rest of us who told him
there were no weapons of mass destruction (but he knew it). Scott Ritter
said it. Others said it. The Left said it. I said it. Saddam's scientists
said it. Saddam's son-in-law, Kamel, said it. And even Collin Powell
foolishly said to the UN, he not only had it, we know where it is at..
Rosey O'Donnel says she has a dream that Collin Powell will yet come
forward and tell the truth about this administration. She obviously
doesn't know or remember that it was Powell who has a history of lying for
his white masters, who also denied there was a massacre at My Lai.
As reported in the Village Voice: Bush claimed that he sought
international support for the war, "but when Kerry pointed out Bush had
recently blocked the use of NATO for training Iraqi forces, the president
dropped the subject."
George Bush says he is opposed to importation of drugs because of the
health risk - even though he said he supported importation to reduce cost
when he was running in 2001. Flip-Flop.
BUT:
"And if Bush is so concerned about foreign drugs, why is he causing the
government to back the importation of half the American supply of flu
vaccine from a British company, when the supply is feared
contaminated?" (James Ridgeway, "Bush Was Born a Ramblin' Man"
October 8th, 2004 - Village Voice)
What seems to have been forgotten with George Bush, his rhetorical
contortions to the contrary, it was under Republicans in the over a
decade, before the prosperity of the William Clinton presidency, when the
Bush policy of supply-side economics and huge deficits brought about
disastrous results for Americans. It was a period of failure and the
largest deficits in the history of the world until those deficits were
exceeded by George W. Bush. Bush who does not accept blame is nevertheless
culpable for the severe loss of jobs, reduction in family income, increase
in banckruptcy - both business and personal, and the worst U.S. government
indebtedness in history and all the deficits combined up to this time.
George Bush is a failure. Who could be so foolish to want four more years
of this insanity?
Hank
